music: the whole world is our playground, pete doherty

Stop the press. Sit down. Breath slowly. Prepare yourself. New Peter Doherty.

The latest lethargic lullaby to present itself from the mastermind which is Doherty, is ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground’. With a western-influenced backbone complementing the Libertines’ co-frontman’s lamenting droll – ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground’ is a flirt with the updated archaic.

Relying heavily on simplistic guitar chords and a brash tamborine slotted neatly into place, ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground’ proves that Pete doesn’t need a gimmick or a bold statement to make an impact. Effective in it’s own right, the new track comes ahead of Doherty’s almost-sold out headline UK tour.

The track itself is the official first snippet to be taken from Pete Doherty’s forthcoming LP, expected in summer 2016 via Clouds Hill Records. So, for most, ‘The Whole World Is Our Playground’ is the ultimate appetite-wetter. What can we expect from Pete’s new material, following his triumphant return to the limelight? Anything that is as carefully carleess as this, and we’re sold.
