festivals: lisbon, split festival sunderland, 2014

After playing a string of festivals this season, including Kendal Calling and T in The Park – where they preformed a fantastic set on the prestigious BBC Introducing Stage – up-and-coming giants Lisbon brought the party to the North East, by taking up rightful stance on Stage 1 (main stage) of Sunderland’s Split Festival.

Expelling hooky riffs and a golden summer atmosphere from their instruments, four-piece Lisbon rallied through a set-list of songs best described as ‘tunes to define and dominate the future’.

As the set drew on, Lisbon’s charismatic frontman charmed the crowd by urging them all to “get dancing” to ‘Rio’. His asks were answered almost instantly as a couple got their groove on amongst the crowd; bringing pleasurable laughter to both audience and the Geordie boys basking in the limelight on stage.

With a catchy chorus prone to burying itself in your brain, Lisbon’s most memorable moment was their performance of ‘Khaleesi’. With an electrified guitar riff being the driving force of ‘Khaleesi’; it’s no wonder why everyone who’s been lucky enough to catch the Lisbon lads live is left with the same thought: this band is something special.

Finishing on ‘Blue Love’, Lisbon were met with an outstanding round of applause as they left the stage.

Fondness was found in the hearts of those whom had had the chance to see Lisbon preform at Split Festival and if one things for certain, these boys are going places: and going fast.
