festivals: chvrches, t in the park 2014

Who: Chvrches
Where: King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent
When: 19:20 – 20:20

Poised with microphone in hand and the two shrouded shadows of the men behind the music watching over her Lauren Mayberry’s honey flavoured vocal kicks in with opening track ‘Recover’ dousing the ravenous crowd in a cloak of electronic excitement.

Ploughing their way through a sparkling setlist featuring bouncing super-hit ‘Lies’ and the groovy ‘Gun’ three-piece Chvrches’ homecoming gig at T in the Park was nothing less than spectacular and triumphantly mesmerising. Hazy riffs, sharp electronic drones and an oozing emotion-riddled vocal performance from Mayberry floated from the King Tut’s tent as the sun slowly began it’s descend over a hectic first day at T in the Park.

Although the sun may have been closing in, shining closing track ‘The Mother We Share’ sparkled with compassion and was met with an astounding round of applause. Stunningly, Chvrches have managed to steal the crown away from any other act on the first day of T in the Park 2014 – the Scots couldn’t have asked for anything better.
